While she didn't go home in the form of an "American Idol" the title, Kellie Pickler was one of the show's best alumni. Kellie Dawn Pickler was born Kellie Dawn Pickler on June 28, 1986, at Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle to Cynthia Morton and Clyde Raymond Pickler. When she became pregnant her mother was already at the age of 16. The childhood was difficult for Pickler since her father was struggling with addiction for drugs and alcohol when her mother separated from her as she was just two. Morton was able to gain the custody rights of Pickler for two years. However, Pickler acknowledged that not all went as planned. "I recall my mother as well as me at the same table, and I said to her "I'd rather be dead than together with you. I wish God could take me away.' The girl took out a knife and placed it on the counter, and then said"Here, cut it then.' I was in the fourth grade. Sure, I'd never take action and it's caused me some emotional wounds," she said. Pickler who was at the age of 12 was handed to her parents after the hearing in court. Pickler is adamant about her grandparents as the main influence throughout her life was a child of them. In January 2002, her grandmother Faye Pickler passed away from lung cancer. Pickler was raised by her grandfather. Pickler was awarded her graduation diploma from the North Stanly, located in New London, North Carolina.
